Who we are
nearbybook is a local marketplace for discovering, buying, and selling used books. This policy covers the nearbybook mobile app (com.nearbybook.app), our website at nearbybook.bilalkhan.online, and support services. For privacy questions, contact the nearbybook team at contact@nearbybook.bilalkhan.online.
Information you provide
- Account and profile: your name, email address, authentication identifier, verification status, profile photo, and any phone number or profile location you provide. Firebase Authentication manages sign-in credentials.
- Listings: book titles, descriptions, categories and classes, prices, condition, photos, seller details, pickup coordinates, location labels, and listing timestamps.
- Messages: chat text, participants, book details, read state, unread counts, and message timestamps.
- Support and deletion requests: your contact information, account identifier when available, the details you submit, and information necessary to verify ownership and resolve the request.
Device permissions and location
Location permission helps show nearby books and set a listing or profile location. The buyer's current browsing position is used in memory to calculate distances; the nearby filter does not write that browsing position to Firebase. Locations you save in your profile or publish with a listing are stored. The app requests foreground location, not continuous background tracking. You can refuse or revoke permission in device settings and still browse other categories.
Listing coordinates are public. A listing's locality label omits street details on new listings, but the underlying pickup latitude and longitude remain in publicly readable book records. Older listings may include more detailed addresses. Only publish a location and seller contact details you are comfortable making public.
Camera or photo-library access is used when you select or take images to upload. Microphone and speech-recognition permission support optional voice search. Speech recognition and geocoding may use your device platform's service providers under their policies. The app does not intentionally store voice recordings in its Firebase databases.
How we use information
We use information to authenticate accounts, show and manage listings, calculate nearby distances, connect buyers and sellers, deliver messages, respond to support requests, handle account deletion, maintain security, and investigate misuse. Website infrastructure and service providers may process technical information such as IP addresses, request times, and error logs to operate and protect the service. Support submissions are subject to a temporary per-IP rate limit.
Who can see information
Book listings, associated photos, seller names, and any seller contact details included in a listing can be read by visitors, including people without an account. User profile records are accessible to authenticated app users under the current database rules. Do not put private information in a public listing or profile. Chat information is intended for the conversation participants and service administration.
Firebase (Google) provides authentication and database services; Cloudinary stores uploaded images; Resend delivers support emails; and our hosting and email providers operate the website and support inbox. Data may be processed outside your country. If you choose WhatsApp, information you share there is handled by WhatsApp under its own terms and privacy policy. We do not sell personal information.
Provider information: Google privacy, Cloudinary privacy, and Resend privacy.
Advertising and tracking
The version covered by this policy does not include an AdMob advertising SDK or website advertising/analytics tracking. Hosting an app-ads.txt file identifies authorized advertising sellers; it does not itself load advertisements or collect an advertising identifier. If advertising is introduced, this policy and the app's consent and privacy controls must reflect that release before ads are served.
Retention and deletion
Account, listing, and chat data are retained while needed to provide the service. You can remove your own listings from My Books. To request removal of your account and associated data, open Profile → Settings → Account deletion or visit our Account Deletion page. Uninstalling the app alone does not delete your account.
We aim to complete verified deletion requests within 30 days. Requests made outside an authenticated session require ownership verification. Deletion covers authentication, profile details, owned listings and hosted images, and associated chat data under our control. Support correspondence and a minimal record of the request may be retained for up to 90 days after completion to handle follow-up issues. Where a specific legal duty or active security dispute requires longer retention, we limit retained data to that purpose and explain the reason and period to you, unless prohibited by law. Copies already saved by other people or shared through WhatsApp are outside our control.
Your choices and requests
You can edit your profile, manage listings, change device permissions, and request access, correction, export, or deletion by contacting support. We may ask for proportionate evidence of ownership before acting. Never send us your password or one-time verification codes.
Children and safety
nearbybook is not directed to children under 13. Do not create an account if you are under 13 or below a higher minimum age required where you live. Young people who are legally eligible to use the service should involve a parent or guardian in purchases, sales, and meetups. Contact us if you believe a child has supplied personal information so we can investigate and remove it as appropriate.
Security and updates
We use service-provider authentication and database access controls, but no system can guarantee absolute security. Report suspected exposure or misuse to support. We may update this policy as the service changes; the effective date identifies the version. Material changes will be communicated through the app or website as appropriate.
